Context:

Click the Tick Marks tab to control the length, thickness, style, and color of major and minor tick marks that appear along the X- and Y-axes of an X–Y plot. The number of major and minor tick marks is controlled separately; see Customizing the X–Y plot axis tick mode. You can control the X- and Y-axis tick marks independently. Examples of major and minor tick marks are shown in Figure 1.

Figure 1. X–Y plot with major and minor tick marks indicated.

Major tick marks govern the placement of the X–Y plot major grid and the numeric axis labels. Minor tick marks are shorter, unlabeled marks governing the placement of the minor gridlines.

By default, Abaqus/CAE automatically computes the number of tick marks. You can specify major tick marks by giving the increment between them or the total number of tick marks. You can specify minor tick marks only by giving the total number between each major tick mark.

The color of the tick marks is governed by the color of the axes. For more information, see Customizing the X–Y plot axis color and style.

  1. Locate the axis Tick Marks options.

Select OptionsXY OptionsAxis; or click , which is located with the X–Y plotting tools in the Visualization module toolbox. Click the Tick Marks tab in the dialog box that appears.

  2. From the X Axis or Y Axis fields, highlight one or more axes.

  3. Choose the location in which to place the axis tick marks.

From the Placement options, choose one of the following:

    None

Abaqus hides the tick marks completely for the selected axis.

    Inside

Abaqus displays the tick marks on the same side of the axis as the X–Y curves.

    Outside

Abaqus displays the tick marks on the side of the axis opposite the X–Y curves.

    Across

Abaqus displays tick marks that straddle both sides of the selected axis.

  4. Specify the length of the tick marks.

Click the Length arrows to increase or decrease the length of the tick marks. Abaqus/CAE increases the length of the major and minor tick marks.

  5. Choose the line style.

From the Style list, click the desired line style (solid, dashed, etc.).

The specified line style appears for the tick marks along the selected axis and in the Style list.

  6. Choose the line thickness.

From the Thickness list, click the desired line thickness.

The specified line thickness appears for the tick marks along the selected axis and in the Thickness list.

  7. Choose the line color:

    1. Click the color sample .

Abaqus/CAE displays the Select Color dialog box.

    2. Use one of the methods in the Select Color dialog box to select a new color. For more information, see Customizing colors.
    3. Click OK to close the Select Color dialog box.

The tick marks for the selected axis change to the selected color.

  8. Click Dismiss to close the Axis Options dialog box.
