Entering X–Y data from the keyboard

You can specify X–Y data directly from the keyboard. To do so, you type X- and Y-values into a simple table editor.

  1. Locate the XY Data from Keyboard options:

    From the main menu bar, selectToolsXY DataCreate. Click Keyboard in the dialog box that appears; then click Continue.

    Tip: You can also specify X–Y data by clicking Create in the XY Data Manager or by using the tool in the toolbox.

    The XY Data from Keyboard dialog box appears.

  2. Use standard keyboard and mouse editing techniques to insert, modify, or delete X- and Y-values in the XY Data from Keyboard table. For special table editing options or to read data from an ASCII file, press mouse button 3. (For more information, see Entering tabular data.)

  3. To assign quantity types to the values in the X- or Y-columns, expand the Quantity Types list for the X or Y column and select quantity types from the lists that appear.

  4. To evaluate and display the data, click Plot.

    An X–Y plot appears in the current viewport. The plot represents the data you have configured in the dialog box, which Abaqus considers temporary data whether or not you have clicked Save As to save it.

  5. To save the data you have configured, click Save As.

    Note: X–Y data objects have a precision of six significant digits; therefore, only six significant digits are retained when you save an X–Y data object.

    To plot your saved X–Y data object, select ToolsXY DataPlot from the main menu bar and choose the X–Y data object from the pull-right menu.

  6. When you have finished, click Cancel to close the dialog box.
