Defining a substructure load definition to activate a substructure load case

You can create a substructure load definition in a substructure usage model to activate a substructure load case for one or more substructures in your analysis. The activation process enables you to change the magnitude of substructure load case loads and boundary conditions using two options:

  • The magnitude multiplier option applies a scaling value to the specified substructure load case loads and boundary conditions. To reproduce the loading conditions defined during substructure generation exactly, accept the default magnitude of 1.0.

  • The amplitude selection enables you to apply a variable multiplying factor to the substructure load case loads and boundary conditions.

For more information about load cases in Abaqus/CAE, see Load cases.”

Using substructures
  1. Display the substructure load editor using one of the following methods:

    • To create a new substructure load, follow the procedure outlined in Creating loads (Category: Mechanical; Types for Selected Step: Substructure load).

    • To edit an existing substructure load using menus or managers, see Editing step-dependent objects.

  2. Do the following:

    1. Click to open the Select Substructure Load Cases dialog box.
    2. Toggle on check boxes for each substructure load case that you want to activate.
    3. Click OK to close the Select Substructure Load Cases dialog box.

  3. In the Magnitude multiplier text field, enter the value by which you want to scale the specified substructure load case loads and boundary conditions. The default value is 1.0, which provides no scaling.

  4. If desired, click the arrow to the right of the Amplitude field, and select the amplitude of your choice from the list that appears. Alternatively, you can click to create a new amplitude. (See The Amplitude toolset,” for more information.)

  5. Click OK to save your data and to exit the editor.
