Plotting annotations in the current viewport

When you open a database that contains saved viewport annotations or create a new viewport for an open database, Abaqus/CAE does not automatically display your viewport arrow or text annotations. You can use the Annotation Manager to plot arrow and text annotations in the current viewport; you can also select the annotations in the Model Tree, click mouse button 3, and select Plot from the menu that appears.

The Annotation Manager

Context:

Annotations generated by Abaqus/CAE are displayed according to the settings in the Viewport Annotation Options dialog box (for more information, see Customizing viewport annotations”).

  1. From the main menu bar, select ViewportAnnotation Manager.

Tip: You can also display the Annotation Manager dialog box by clicking from the Viewport toolbar.

  2. Click the MDB or ODB radio button to select the source of the annotations to be plotted.

    1. If you have more than one output database open or are otherwise uncertain of the database files involved, position the cursor over the MDB or ODB radio button to display a tooltip containing the database path and file name.
    2. If necessary, change the active output database by displaying the desired database in the current viewport. Alternatively, you can open a new viewport to display the database or close all the other output databases.

Abaqus/CAE lists the annotations available in the selected database.

  3. Select annotations from the list in the dialog box (for more information, see Selecting multiple items from lists and tables).

Tip: Toggle on Highlight selections in viewport to preview the selected annotations.

  4. Click Plot.

Abaqus/CAE plots the selected annotations in the current viewport.
