Translating Sketcher objects along a vector

Use the translate tool from the Sketcher toolbox to move or copy Sketcher objects—lines, arcs, circles, ellipses, fillets, or splines—along a specified vector. You can define the beginning and the end of the translation vector by selecting from the sketch or by typing the X- and Y-coordinates of each end.

  1. From the move and copy tools in the Sketcher toolbox, select the translate tool . For a diagram of the tools in the Sketcher toolbox, see The Sketcher tools.

  2. Select Copy or Move in the prompt area.

Abaqus/CAE displays prompts in the prompt area to guide you through the procedure.

  3. Select all the objects that you want to translate. You can select sketch and construction geometry to move, or you can select sketch, construction, and reference geometry to copy; dimensions cannot be translated.

Tip: To select more than one object, hold down the Shift key as you click each object or drag a rectangle around the objects. To unselect an object, use CtrlClick. For more information, see Selecting objects within the viewport.”

  4. Click mouse button 2 to indicate that you have finished selecting objects.

  5. Select a start position for the translation vector, or enter coordinates in the prompt area.

  6. Select an end position for the translation vector, or enter coordinates in the prompt area.

Abaqus/CAE moves or copies the selected objects as specified.

  7. If desired, repeat Steps 5 and 6 to continue moving the previously selected objects.

Regardless of whether you originally moved or copied the selected objects, subsequent translation vectors only move the objects from their position at the end of the previous step.

  8. When you have finished translating objects, do one of the following:

    • Click mouse button 2 anywhere in the Abaqus/CAE window.

    • Select any tool in the Sketcher toolbox.

    • Click the cancel button in the prompt area.
