Dragging Sketcher objects

Use the Drag tool from the Sketcher toolbox to quickly move or resize a Sketcher object or to reposition dimension text. You can drag only one vertex, line, or dimension at a time. The object or dimension text that you drag snaps to the grilines when the Snap to grid option is selected; see Turning snapping on or off for more information.

Context:

If you drag a vertex or line, Abaqus/CAE modifies connected Sketcher objects according to the applied constraints—including dimensions and parameters—and according to the constraint solution method applied to drag operations. By default, the Minimum move constraint solution method, in which Abaqus/CAE moves the minimum number of entities to satisfy the constraints, is used (for more information, see Customizing the use of constraints in the Sketcher).

  1. From the modify tools in the Sketcher toolbox, select the Drag tool . For a diagram of the tools in the Sketcher toolbox, see The Sketcher tools.

Handles appear on all vertices in the viewport. Abaqus/CAE displays prompts in the prompt area to guide you through the procedure.

  2. Click and drag the selected vertex, edge, or dimension text to a new location.

The selected object moves with the cursor unless constraints in the sketch do not allow the desired movement.

  3. When you have finished dragging objects, do one of the following:

    • Click mouse button 2 anywhere in the Abaqus/CAE window.

    • Select any tool in the Sketcher toolbox.

    • Click the cancel button in the prompt area.
