About Importing and Exporting Configuration Files

You can provide the configuration for process components by importing information from a file.

Click the button on the component editor’s General tab to import the entire configuration. Depending on the configuration you want to provide, you can use the following methods to import the information:

Component

Method

DOE

Right-click in the factors and postprocessing tables to import factors and responses (and their attributes).

Monte Carlo

Right-click in the random variables and responses tables to import random variables and responses (and their attributes).

Optimization

Right-click in the variables, constraints, and objectives tables to import variables, constraints, and objectives (and their attributes).

SDI

Right-click in the design variables, random variables, and responses tables to import variables and responses (and their attributes).

Six Sigma

Right-click in the random variables and responses tables to import random variables and responses (and their attributes).

Taguchi Robust Design

Right-click in the factors and responses tables to import factors and responses (and their attributes).

Similarly, you can export the configuration information using the same methods.

In addition to importing the configuration when you are building your model, you can import the configuration at the beginning of the component’s execution using an Advanced Option on the component editor’s General tab.

The process component configuration file must contain the information in a specified format, consisting of the following sections:

  • Technique

  • Technique Options

  • Execution Options

  • Design Parameters (with sub-sections for each design parameter type)

The easiest way to ensure you are using the correct format (and to view all the options available) is to export the current configuration to a file and then modify that file.

Before you import and export process component configuration files, consider the following:

  • All sections are not required.

  • All options within a section are not required.

  • Importing a file either overrides or adds to the current configuration. It does not clear the existing configuration before importing.

  • The supported technique options depend on the technique that you selected. For more information, see the “Setting Technique-Specific Options” section for each process component.

  • Options with an empty value are ignored.

  • Indentations are for presentation only; therefore, they are ignored.

  • For design parameters, attributes are provided in tab-separated columns. Because some design parameters can have attributes that others do not have, you must provide a column for each attribute containing the <> characters to indicate no value.

  • Section tags are case-sensitive.

  • In general, options and attributes specified in the file that are not appropriate for the current technique are ignored and warnings are displayed.
