The LINK connection constrains the position of node b, $x_{b}$ , to a constant distance from node a. The distance between the two nodes is

and is constant. The constraint force in the LINK connection acts along the line connecting the two nodes and is

\bar{f} = f_{1} q, where q = \frac{1}{∥ x_{b} - x_{a} ∥} (x_{b} - x_{a}) .
