Customizing the location of the legend

You can move the X–Y plot legend by dragging it around the viewport or by specifying a viewport location from the Position options in the Chart Legend Options dialog box. You can drag the legend only when Abaqus/CAE does not have a procedure active; if you cannot drag the legend or select any other X–Y plot components from the viewport, cancel the current procedure.

  1. Locate the Chart Legend Options.

Select OptionsXY OptionsChart Legend; or click , which is located with the X–Y plotting tools in the Visualization module toolbox.

Tip: You can also open this dialog box directly by double-clicking the legend in the viewport when an X–Y plot is displayed. You cannot select a component in an X–Y plot directly from the viewport when an active procedure is in effect; cancel the current procedure before selecting items from an X–Y plot.

  2. From the Charts field, select one or more X–Y plots whose legends you wish to move.

  3. Click the Area tab, if it is not already selected.

  4. Toggle on Inset to display the X–Y plot legend within the X–Y plot grid. If Inset is off, Abaqus/CAE keeps the legend and the X–Y plot in separate bands of the viewport.

  5. Select one of the following positioning options:

    Auto-align

This option enables you to align the legend in one of nine positions in the viewport: its center, any of the four corners, or centered along any of the four edges. Expand the Alignment list, then select one of the options depicted graphically in the list.

    Manual

This option enables you to position the legend at a specific X–Y location in the viewport. Drag the X and Y sliders to move the legend horizontally or vertically in the viewport. When these sliders' values are set to 0, the legend is placed in the lower left corner of the viewport.

  6. Click Dismiss to close the Chart Legend Options dialog box.
