Using the specify parameter by location method to partition edges

You can partition a selected edge anywhere along its length by clicking on the edge at the location of the partition. Abaqus/CAE converts the location to a parameter. As a result, you can use the Feature Manipulation toolset to modify the location of the partition.

Methods for partitioning edges
  1. From the main menu bar, select ToolsPartition.

    The Create Partition dialog box appears. Abaqus/CAE displays prompts in the prompt area to guide you through the procedure.

    Tip: You can also use the specify parameter method to partition edges using the tool, located with the partition edge tools in the module toolbox. For a diagram of the partition tools in the toolbox, see Using the Partition toolset.

  2. From the Type radio buttons at the top of the dialog box, choose Edge.

    The Method list displays the methods that you can use to partition an edge.

  3. From the list of methods, select Specify parameter by location.

  4. Click anywhere along the edge.

    Abaqus/CAE highlights the edge and the location along the edge that you picked.

  5. If the location of the partition is not correct, click along the edge again.

  6. If the location of the partition is correct, click Create Partition in the prompt area.

    Abaqus/CAE creates the partition.
