Creating a filter

Select ToolsFilterCreate from the main menu bar to create a filter. For more information on filters including a default filter type created automatically by Abaqus, see Filtering field and history data.

  1. From the main menu bar, select ToolsFilterCreate.

Tip: You can also create a filter by clicking Create in the Filter Manager.

The Create Filter dialog box appears.

  2. In the Name field, enter a name for the filter. For information on naming objects, see Using basic dialog box components.

  3. From the Type list, select one of the following, then click Continue:

    • Butterworth

    • Type I Chebyshev

    • Type II Chebyshev

    • Operator

The Edit Filter dialog box appears.

  4. If you selected the Butterworth filter type or one of the Chebyshev filter types, perform the following steps:

    1. Enter the Cutoff frequency.

      Note:

Abaqus does not perform any checks to ensure that the cutoff frequency is appropriate. If the cutoff is set too low, valid data will be filtered from the results; if it is set too high, no filtering will be performed.

    2. Enter the Order for the filter, which must be a positive, even integer value no greater than 20.

  5. If you selected one of the Chebyshev filter types, accept the default ripple factor or enter a value.

The ripple factor determines the magnitude of data oscillation that you will allow in exchange for a faster transition between accepted and rejected data. For more information, see Filtering output and operating on output in Abaqus/Explicit.

  6. If desired, specify the type of bounding value for which you want to filter data.

    • Select Maximum to output the maximum value within each output interval for each variable in the output request.

    • Select Minimum to output the minimum value within each output interval for each variable in the output request.

    • Select Absolute maximum to output the maximum absolute value within each output variable for each variable in the output request.

You can also select None to toggle off all bounding value–related output requests for this filter.

  7. If desired, specify a limit for bounding value requests by entering a value in the Bounding value limit field. This value limits the highest or lowest value that Abaqus/CAE records for variables that use this filter.

You can also stop the analysis if the bounding value limit is reached. Toggle on Stop analysis upon reaching limit to halt a job when the maximum or minimum value equals the limit value for variables that use this filter.

  8. If you selected Minimum, Maximum, or Absolute Maximum for the type of bounding value, you can apply the filter directly to an invariant. To filter the invariant, select First or Second as the Invariant.

  9. Click OK to create the filter.

To apply the filter in an analysis, select Apply filter when you create an output request for an Abaqus/Explicit analysis procedure. For more information, see Modifying field output requests or Modifying history output requests.
