  1. From the Edit Fasteners dialog box, display the Domain tabbed page.

  2. Choose the direction vector along which the positioning points will be projected onto the target surface.

    • By default, Abaqus/CAE creates the direction vector along which the positioning points will be projected along the normal to the closest face.

    • To change the direction vector, toggle on Specify, click , and select the points representing the start and end of the direction vector. Abaqus/CAE displays the direction vector.

  3. Select the approach for the target surfaces.

    • Choose Whole model to use all of the surfaces in the model as the target surfaces.

    • Choose Fasten specified surfaces by proximity to specify the surfaces to be connected. The fastening point connectivity is defined by the relative positions of the surfaces along the direction vector.

    • Choose Fasten in specified order to specify a particular order of the target surfaces. The fastening point connectivity is determined by the direction vector.

  4. Double click the first row in the target surfaces table, and select surfaces in the viewport. Click Done in the prompt area to indicate you have finished the surface selection.

You can select multiple surfaces from the viewport to define a single surface region.

  5. Click mouse button 3 anywhere on the target surfaces table to edit the selected surface, add a new surface, or delete a surface.
