Repositioning a view cut

By default, when a view cut is first activated, Abaqus/CAE positions it halfway through the model. You can use the view cut manager to reposition cuts on the model. You can translate plane cuts along the normal axis or rotate them about the other two axes. You can redefine the radius of cylindrical or spherical cuts and the contour value used for isosurface cuts to reposition where they cut through the model. The positioning options in the view cut manager apply only to the selected cut, which may be different from the currently active cut.

Context:

In all modules except the Visualization module, Abaqus/CAE repositions the cutting plane back to the halfway point if you modify the model.

  1. From the main menu bar, select ToolsView CutManager.

The View Cut Manager appears with a list of all the view cuts that have been created during the current session.

  2. Select a view cut in the manager by clicking on its name.

The selected view cut is highlighted in the manager.

  3. To translate a Plane view cut:

    1. Select Translate from the menu at the bottom of the view cut manager.

    2. Reposition the view cut using one of the following methods:

      • Enter a value for the Position along the normal axis.

      • Drag the Position slider to select a value. The slider is available only if the view cut is currently active.

      • Increase the Sensitivity of the slider for fine control over view cut repositioning. Each sensitivity increment focuses the slider's range of motion by a factor of 10, so a sensitivity setting of 100 enables you to reposition a view cut within 1/100 of the model.

Alternatively, you can double-click a location in the Sensitivity bar to reposition the view cut to a general location, then drag the Position slider to select a value.

The selected cut is translated by the specified value.

  4. To rotate a Plane view cut:

    1. Select Rotate from the menu at the bottom of the view cut manager.

    2. Select the axis of rotation (the 2- or 3-axis for a cut defined by the Key-in method or either of the two non-normal axes for a cut defined by the From CSYS method; see Creating or editing a view cut); and enter a value for the Angle of rotation, or use the slider to select a value.

The selected cut is rotated about the origin of the axis of rotation by the specified angle. Any translations applied to the view cut are ignored.

  5. To reposition a Cylinder, Sphere, or Isosurface view cut, enter a value in the available text field, or use the slider to select a value. The slider is available only if the view cut is currently active; you can increase the slider's sensitivity for greater precision.

    • For Cylinder cuts enter a value for the Radius of the cylinder.

    • For Sphere cuts enter a value for the Radius of the sphere.

    • For Isosurface cuts enter a value for the contour Value to which the cut should correspond.

The selected cut is repositioned as specified.
