Creating a new adaptivity process

An adaptivity process is a succession of analysis jobs. Abaqus/CAE modifies the mesh in each analysis job in response to error estimates that were computed from data written to the output database during the final increment of the previous analysis. For more information, see What is an adaptivity process?. To create a new adaptivity process, select AdaptivityCreate from the main menu bar.

  1. From the main menu bar, select AdaptivityCreate.

The Edit Adaptivity Process dialog box appears.

Tip: You can also create a new adaptivity process by clicking the icon in the module toolbox or by clicking Create in the Adaptivity Process Manager.

  2. Type the name of the new adaptivity process in the Name text field. The name that you specify must adhere to the file naming rules for your operating system.

  3. Select the model to associate with the adaptivity process from the Model field.

  4. If desired, type the description of the adaptivity process in the Description text field. The description is stored in the model database and the output database, and you can use this description to help you manage your adaptivity processes.

  5. Enter the job prefix in the Job Prefix text field. The job name for each iteration of the adaptivity process will start with this prefix. The prefix that you specify must adhere to the file naming rules for your operating system. If you do not provide a job prefix, Abaqus/CAE uses the name of the adaptivity process.

  6. In the editor, enter all data necessary to define the process and click OK. (For more information, see Using the adaptivity process editor.)
