Managing parts

To create, copy, rename, and delete parts, use one of the following:

  • The Create, Copy, Rename, and Delete items listed under the Part menu on the main menu bar.

    The Copy, Rename, and Delete items contain submenus listing all the parts in the current model.

  • The Part Manager dialog box. The Part Manager dialog box contains functions similar to those listed under the Part menu on the main menu bar, but with a convenient browser that lists the names of all the parts available within the current model along with their modeling space (three-dimensional, two-dimensional, or axisymmetric), type (deformable, discrete rigid, analytical rigid, or Eulerian), and status (locked, invalid, or invalid (ignored)).

    To display the Part Manager dialog box, select PartManager from the main menu bar.

To lock or unlock parts for editing in the current model database, use the Lock and Unlock buttons in the Part Manager dialog box. The Status field indicates Locked parts . For more information on part locking, see What is part and assembly locking?.

To update the validity or to ignore the invalidity of parts, use the Update Validity and Ignore Invalidity buttons in the Part Manager dialog box. The Status field indicates Invalid or Invalid (ignored) parts. For more information on part validity, see Working with invalid parts.

To retrieve a part from the model database and display it in the current viewport, select the part from the Part list located in the context bar. The Part list contains all the parts in the current model.
