Using Model Validation

To guide you through creating a model in the Design Gateway,Isight scans the current model's configuration for errors and warnings upon each change in the model. If you do not want to see the validation messages, you can turn off the validation. Alternatively, if there are specific warnings that you know are not important, you can instruct the validation engine to ignore those warnings and to not present them (error messages cannot be ignored).

Important: Turning off validation only affects the model while you are working on it in the Design Gateway. Validation is still performed on the model immediately prior to execution, and the model is not executed if any errors are discovered.

  1. From the Design Gateway, click the Model Validation Switch to toggle on or off validation.

    If no errors are found, the message No Errors displays in the status bar.

    If an error is found, a description of the first error encountered appears in the status bar and the View all validation button becomes available.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • To view or correct errors as the errors were encountered:
      1. Click Go To.

        Isight displays the location of the error.

      2. View and correct the error.
      3. Click Go To again to advance to the next error to be corrected.
      4. Continue stepping through the errors.
    • To view or correct errors, as desired:
      1. Click the View all validation button to view a list of the errors.

        The appearance of this button changes to indicate the number and severity of the errors. For example, if two warning messages and one error message were found, the button displays 3 Items.

        The Validation Error dialog box appears.

      2. Select an error, and click Go To.
      3. View and correct the error.
      4. Continue viewing and correcting errors, as desired.

    Note: If the Fix It button is available from the status bar or the Validation Error dialog box, you can click it and Isight will automatically correct the error.

  3. If desired, you can choose to ignore and to not display validation warnings or information messages that are not significant. You cannot ignore error messages.

    • To ignore the message displayed in the status bar, right-click in the status bar and select Ignore. The message will be replaced by the next most severe message and the count of validation messages will decrease.

    • To ignore any validation messages (other than errors) in the Validation Messages dialog box, click Ignore in the corresponding row in the table. Ignored messages are displayed as gray rows in the table.

      To hide the ignored messages from the Validation Messages dialog box view, clear the Show ignored messages check box at the bottom of the dialog box.

    • To restore any ignored validation messages, you must use the Validation Messages dialog box. Verify that the Show ignored messages check box is selected and click Restore in the corresponding row.

  4. Click Done to close the Validation Errors dialog box and to return to the Design Gateway.

  5. If desired, save the model.
