Accessing the Log File

Isight automatically writes messages that it finds to the log file and provides a convenient mechanism for you to send this log file to your SIMULIA technical support representative. Typically the messages indicate that something was wrong with the model, but Isight was able to correct the error.

When you view your model, the Log button in the gateway changes from to to indicate that messages have been written to the log file. If an error has occurred and information has been written to the log file, the button changes to .

The Isight log file (gateway.log) is stored in the following location on your local system and can be accessed directly from this location, if desired:

Windows: C:\Documents and Settings\<user_name>\Local Settings\Temp\fiper

Linux: /home/<user_name>

  1. From the Design Gateway or the Runtime Gateway, click the Log button to view the messages written to the Isight log file.

The Log Viewer dialog box appears.

  2. If desired, click E-mail Log to send the information in the log file to SIMULIA technical support.

When contacting technical support, please provide a detailed explanation of the problem and screen captures, if possible, in addition to the log file.

    1. In the From text box, enter your e-mail address. You can set Isight to use a default From e-mail address whenever an e-mail function is used. For more information, see Setting Mail Server Preferences.
    2. Click to add an attachment such as a screen capture.
    3. If desired, change the subject in the Subject text box.
    4. Click Send.

A SIMULIA technical support representative will contact you about your problem as soon as possible.

  3. If desired, click Copy to copy the log file text (so that you can paste it into another application). You can select any portion of the text you want. If no text is selected, the entire contents of the log file are copied automatically.

  4. If desired, click the button to set the log severity icon back to the OK state.

In addition, you can right-click in the Log Viewer and select Clear to remove the contents from the Log Viewer. These actions do not clear the log file; the error messages will remain in the log.

  5. Click OK to close the Log Viewer and to return to the Design Gateway or the Runtime Gateway.
