Defining Markers

You can define a marker by selecting text or by using search variables.

This task shows you how to:

Define a Marker by Selecting Text

You can define a marker based on the text that you select. The Data Exchanger uses the selected text (with punctuation changed to underscores) as the marker name.

  1. Double-click the Data Exchanger component icon .

    The Data Exchanger Component Editor appears.

  2. From the Data Exchanger Component Editor, select some text on the line where you want the marker.

  3. Click the button on the toolbar.

    The Data Exchanger component creates the marker, searches for the selected text in the selected section, and uses the selected text (with punctuation changed to underscores) as the marker name.

  4. Click OK to save your changes and to close the Data Exchanger Component Editor.

Define a Marker Using Search Variables

You can define a Java variable to hold the marker, define the section to search, and define the string for which to search.

  1. Double-click the Data Exchanger component icon .

    The Data Exchanger Component Editor appears.

  2. From the Data Exchanger Component Editor, select a General Text section and click the button on the toolbar.

    The Marker dialog box opens.

  3. Enter the following information:

    Option Description
    Variable Name The Java variable to hold the marker.
    Section to search The Java variable assigned to the General Text section (or file) when it was created.
    Search for String for which to search.
    Search from Where to begin the search.

  4. Click OK.

    The Data Exchanger creates the marker, searches for the selected text in the selected section, and highlights it in orange.
