Configuring Read or Write Actions

You can use the Data Exchanger component to read or write a parameter. You must select the parameter and data to set up a Read or a Write action. You select the data by clicking or swiping data in the Data Source area or by entering details in the Swipe Details area. You select the parameters using the Parameters table or the Parameter list in the Parameter Read/Write area. You can also create a new parameter by entering a name in the Parameter Read/Write area.

The Parameters table shows the following:

  • all parameters that belong to the Data Exchanger component itself,

  • the parent component of the Data Exchanger, and

  • any sibling components that are before or after the Data Exchanger component in the simulation process flow. When a parameter from a parent or sibling component is read or written, a parameter with the same name is created in the Data Exchanger component and the appropriate parameter mappings are created.

The parameters and mappings are not created until you click OK or Apply on the Data Exchanger Component Editor. If you click Cancel, no parameters are created and all changes since the editor was opened are discarded.

In general, the data and parameter selections are independent and can be selected in either order. The Read and Write buttons are unavailable until both a parameter and some data have been selected.

The process for creating a Read or Write action is different depending on whether the parameters are created before the Data Exchanger Component Editor is opened (top-down) or are created by the Data Exchanger Component Editor (bottom-up).
